The Gulf-Atlantic Athletic Conference (GAAC) is growing stronger and broader with its latest expansion. The 2026-2027 season will mark a significant milestone as the conference adds two new West Coast universities, California Miramar University (CMU) and California Prestige University (CPU). This expansion builds on the return of California Intercontinental University (CIA) and Lincoln University (LU), both of which made impressive marks during the GAAC’s inaugural 2025-2026 season. This development not only strengthens the West Coast division but also enhances the competitive spirit and diversity of the entire conference.

Building on a Strong Foundation

The GAAC started its journey in the 2025-2026 season with a solid lineup of universities, including CIA and LU. Both schools quickly established themselves as key players in the conference. CIA earned the title of 2025 Conference Runners-up in Soccer, showcasing their skill and determination on the field. Meanwhile, LU captured the 2025-26 GAAC Basketball Championship, proving their dominance on the court.

These achievements set a high standard for the conference and demonstrated the potential of West Coast teams to compete at a high level. The return of CIA and LU for the 2026-2027 season signals their commitment to continuing this legacy of excellence.

Introducing California Miramar University and California Prestige University

The addition of California Miramar University and California Prestige University brings fresh energy and talent to the GAAC. Both institutions have strong athletic programs and a history of competitive success in their respective regions.

  • California Miramar University (CMU)

CMU is known for its well-rounded athletic teams and commitment to student-athlete development. Their inclusion in the GAAC will add depth to the conference’s soccer and basketball competitions.

  • California Prestige University (CPU)

CPU has built a reputation for excellence in multiple sports, with a focus on fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. Their entry into the GAAC will raise the level of competition and bring new rivalries to the West Coast division.

Together, CMU and CPU create a robust West Coast presence that complements the existing East Coast and Southeastern schools.

Strengthening the West Coast Division

With CIA, LU, CMU, and CPU, the GAAC’s West Coast division becomes a powerhouse. This group of universities offers a mix of established champions and rising contenders, which will make for exciting matchups and storylines throughout the season.

The West Coast division now stands alongside the conference’s strong lineup of schools, including:

  • Millennia Atlantic University

  • South Florida Bible College

  • John Melvin University

  • John Melvin Christian College of CFL

  • John Melvin Christian College of NWFL

  • Daytona Beach Christian University

This geographic diversity enriches the conference by bringing together different playing styles and athletic traditions.

What This Means for the GAAC and Its Fans

The expansion signals the GAAC’s commitment to growth and competitive balance. Fans can expect:

  • More exciting games

The addition of new teams means more matchups and fresh rivalries, especially on the West Coast.

  • Increased visibility

Expanding into California opens new markets and opportunities for media coverage and fan engagement.

  • Higher competition level

With strong programs joining, every game will be a test of skill and strategy.

Student-athletes will benefit from exposure to diverse competition, which can enhance their development and opportunities beyond college sports.

Looking Ahead to the 2026-2027 Season

The upcoming season promises to be one of the most competitive in GAAC history. Returning champions like LU will face new challenges from CMU and CPU, while CIA aims to build on its soccer success. The East Coast and Southeastern schools will also continue to push for top honors, creating a dynamic and unpredictable conference race.

Coaches and players alike will need to prepare for a season filled with tough opponents and high stakes. The expanded GAAC offers a platform for athletic excellence and personal growth, making it an exciting time for everyone involved.
